Weekly update of Isle of Wight Covid-19 figures: Positive tests, age breakdowns, deaths and hospitalisations

In the last week (21st-27th February 2022) the number of new positive Coronavirus (Covid-19) tests on the Isle of Wight totalled 406 – a rate per 100,000 population of 287.94.

The cumulative total since the pandemic began now stands at 31,980– a rate per 100,000 population of 22,680.85.

Deaths
The Office for National Statistics report two new deaths, one in a care home and one in the hospital, during week 7 (deaths that occurred up to 18th February, but were registered up to 26th February 2022).

As of 18th February, the cumulative number of deaths with Covid-19 on the death certificate on the Isle of Wight was 382.

As of 1st March 2022, the Government Dashboard records the total number of deaths within 28 days of a positive test was 350, a rise of two since last week.

Covid patients in hospital
The Covid dashboard shows that as of 22nd February 2022 there were 25 patients being treated for Covid-19 at St Mary’s hospital.

The Government dashboard also reports no Covid patients are relying on mechanical ventilation.

Vaccinations
The number of Covid-19 vaccinations given on the Isle of Wight totals 311,568.

The total number of people who have received the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine, reported up to 28th February 2022 was 113,412.

The total number of people who have received the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine, reported up to 28th February 2022 was 108,053.

The total number of people who have received a booster or third dose of Covid-19 vaccine, reported up to 28th February 2022 was 90,103.

Symptoms
The main symptoms of Coronavirus are:

  • a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or three or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you’ve noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
  • Most people with Coronavirus have at least one of these symptoms. Book via the NHS.

Delta variant
Symptoms of the Delta variant have been described in the ZOE Symptom App as:

  • Headaches
  • Sore throats
  • Runny noses
  • Fever

Omicron variant
Symptoms of the Omicron variant have been described in the ZOE Symptom App as:

  • Runny nose
  • Headache
  • Fatigue (mild or severe)
  • Sneezing
  • Sore throat
