Remember the police search going on at Ryde Pier spotted by VB reader Eric?
Well, more detail have emerged about it, as the Island police are now appealing for information as they attempt to trace men and car after what is described as a “suspicious incident” on Ryde Pier shortly after 11.00pm last night.
‘Large, cylindrical object’
There had been a report of two men in a light coloured 4×4 acting suspiciously on the pier, when they dropped what appeared to be a large, cylindrical object into the sea.
What had been spotted today was police officers from Hampshire Constabulary’s Force Support Unit (FSU) carrying out a search for the object with support from the Bembridge and Ryde Coastguard Rescue Teams, and Ryde Inshore Rescue.
There is no evidence to suggest any danger to the public at this time. Passenger ferry services from Ryde are running as normal.
