A cheque for £6,000 was presented by Councillor Karen Lucioni to Wessex Cancer Support this week who were nominated for funding as part of the recycling of metals scheme run by the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management.
The scheme, with consent from bereaved families, raises funds from the recycling of metals from cremation to donate to a chosen charity.
Laura Haytack received the cheque on behalf of Wessex Cancer Trust saying,
“The Trust believes that there should be help and support available to everyone living with cancer, when and where they need it. One in two of us will be diagnosed with cancer in our lifetime.
“Wessex Cancer Trust provides free and local emotional support to anyone living with cancer. We offer a drop-in service, professional counselling, complementary therapies, activities, support groups and courses.
“We also run services in the heart of the community and transport on our Daisy Buses to help Islanders get to their hospital appointments.
“Our ambition is a future where everyone affected by cancer receives the support that empowers them to live well with and beyond cancer. We can continue supporting Island people with this funding.”
