What will you be doing on World AIDS Day?

Work experience Sixth Form Student Hannah Mew, explores the background of World AIDS Day which takes place tomorrow (Saturday). Ed

Worlds AIDS Day takes place on 1st December every year, with the first being held in 1988.

The day is about creating awareness of HIV and offering support to those who have HIV or those who have been affected by HIV.

Why is it important?
There are over 100,000 people in the UK who are HIV Positive and it is thought that worldwide the figure is 34 million.

As well as raising awareness, it’s also a time to remember loved-ones lost to this horrendous disease.

There are many events organised across the country for World AIDS Day. We couldn’t find any on the Isle of Wight, but there are plenty listed for Hampshire on the World AIDS Day Website.
