If you’re a fan of the Ryde Regatta, or perhaps you feel it could be improved, read on for this message from Ryde Councillor, Brian Harris. Ed
Ryde Town Council has set up a Regatta steering group to organise the event, which will run from Friday evening to Sunday evening, 2nd – 4th July, on the Eastern Gardens.
It will be family-orientated fun, especially in the daytime.
Things already planned:
- Friday evening – live music;
- Saturday afternoon – Ryde Arts Parade ending at LA Bowl, with loads of kids, parents, brass and samba bands, etc.;
- Saturday evening – live music, and fireworks on the beach;
- Sunday evening – live music.
- Rotary will run a licensed bar, and Lions will serve tea & coffee and do a barbecue.
We’ve already got some thoughts, but a lot of people have gone on about the old days, when it was a proper regatta, etc., and this, that, and the other used to happen.

So, we’d like suggestions [clean and legal, please!] as to what you would like to see there this year. It will be high tide mid-afternoon, so there’ll be lots of water, as well as plenty of beach, for activities.
If you’ve an idea, please add a comment, or send it to Cora Wade: [email protected]. The best ones won’t win a prize, but you’ll have the satisfaction of having shaped one of Ryde’s favourite events. You might even get a mention in the programme.
Remember, if you read this and don’t respond, and then turn up and don’t enjoy the event – tough, it’s your fault!!
