On Friday evening (3rd December) members of the Isle of Wight Conservative councillors will elect their new leader.
The election follows current leader, Cllr Steve Hastings, stepping down last week so he can focus on a full recovery after becoming unwell earlier this year.
Four possible names for contenders have been mentioned to News OnTheWight over the last week, so we got in touch with all of them to confirm whether they are candidates.
The councillors
Cllr Clare Mosdell (Newchurch Havenstreet and Ashey) gave a quick reply and a short answer, no she is not running.
Cllr Joe Robertson (Bembridge) was also swift to respond, confirming that he has been nominated.
Cllr Gary Peace (Ventnor and St Lawrence) has not responded to our email.
Cllr Chris Quirk (Shanklin South) told News OnTheWight,
“Nominations for the new leader of the Conservative Group have not yet closed but currently there are two nominated candidates, myself and Joe Robertson.”
Once the election has taken place, we’ll let you know the results.
