Helen Blake-Edwards has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Aviation Heritage UK in recognition of her work as a founder member and director of Wight Aviation Museum, based at Sandown Airport.
The Lifetime Achievement Award is a fitting recognition of Helen Blake-Edwards’ longstanding contribution to the museum and to the wider effort to keep aviation heritage accessible, engaging and relevant.
The award ceremony took place at a meeting of the Aviation Heritage UK in Poynton Cheshire, which by coincidence is where Helen grew up until she was 8 years old! It was presented by Allan Winn, Chairman of Aviation Heritage UK.
The award celebrates Helen’s commitment to preserving and sharing aviation heritage, and her contribution to establishing and supporting the museum. Through her work with Wight Aviation Museum, she has helped advance the museum’s purpose of bringing aviation history to life for visitors and future generations. The Wight Aviation Museum will be celebrating its tenth anniversary next year.

“What an honour to receive this national and prestigious award from Aviation Heritage UK. I’m proud to accept this award on behalf of all the hours volunteers have put in developing the museum. To be recognised nationally is a huge honour,
“We’ve all worked so hard to build an Island aviation museum. I’m so proud to receive this national award. We’re celebrating 10 years in 2027, which is a great achievement.”
Wight Aviation Museum, located at Sandown Airport on the Isle of Wight, showcases the history of aviation and offers visitors an opportunity to discover the people, aircraft and stories that have shaped flight. The museum also connects the Island’s aviation past with the technology and experiences of today.
