In a display of environmental awareness and community engagement, homeowners across the Island recently opened their doors to the public for the inaugural Green Open Homes Exhibition.
This unique event offered visitors a firsthand look at innovative energy efficiency measures, cutting-edge green technologies, and sustainable design practices implemented in local homes.
Green Open Homes
Organised by Wight Community Energy the Green Open Homes model aims to inspire and educate individuals about the benefits of adopting sustainable living practices.
By inviting visitors into their homes, participating homeowners hope to demonstrate that low-energy living is not only achievable but also rewarding and financially appealing.
Energy-efficient features and green technologies
Visitors to the Green Open Homes Exhibition had the opportunity to explore a diverse range of energy-efficient features and green technologies, including:
- Solar panels: helping homeowners harness the power of the sun to generate clean, renewable energy for their households.
- Heat pumps: providing efficient heating solutions while reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions.
- Sustainable design: homes that incorporate sustainable building materials, passive solar design, and other environmentally conscious architectural elements.
- In-depth insulation: how homes from earlier eras can be brought up to modern standards to lower bills and improve comfort.
