WightFibre have increased the cost of their Isle of Wight broadband to their current customers in what are called mid-contract price increases.
From April 2023, those using the service will need to pay 12.5 per cent extra.
Many broadband providers across the UK have been increasing their prices, many at a higher rate.
Change in terms
Until April 2021, WightFibre’s terms stated,
“The monthly price for your broadband plan can increase each year by the rate of inflation (the Consumer Price Index rate, published in January each year).”
This appears to have changed two months later where the far more pliable, “The monthly price for your broadband plan can change during your contract period,” was used instead.
The official CPI rate, as published in January 2023, was 10.5 per cent.
WF: Only two per cent on top
When News OnTheWight queried this with WightFibre they stated,
“We added only two per cent on top.”
WightFibre then compared their mid-contract price increase with BT, which they say added 3.9 per cent on top of the CPI rate, bringing the total increase to 14.4 per cent.
WightFibre the lowest increase
Looking at a recent Uswitch article, it appears that nearly all UK broadband providers have increased prices.
Of those listed – Uswitch do show some providers that are not having mid-contract price increases – Islanders can take a little solace that WightFibre does appear to be the lowest.
