Wightlink have raised the prospect that those who continue to drive above 10MPH on Ryde Pier could be banned from all Wightlink’s properties, potentially blocking them from using Wightlink ferries.
Wightlink say that 182,000 vehicles have used the pier since it re-opened. Of those, 464 drivers have been issued with final notices warning them that if they are caught speeding again, then Wightlink will have no option but to exclude them from all of Wightlink’s property.
“We will actually ban drivers …”
Kerry Jackson, spokesperson for Wightlink told Isle of Wight Radio, “We will actually ban drivers from all Wightlink property if they continue to speed. That will be from the car ferries and ticket offices and terminals. We take this issue very seriously.”
After the Pier was closed with immediate effect in August 2010, extensive works were carried out. The pier was reopened with a toll charge and 10MPH speed limit, with cameras calculating the average speed of cars along the pier.
Good or bad?
What do you think? Are Wightlink right to threaten, or even ban those that exceed their 10MPH speed limit on the Pier?
