Wightlink’s flagship ferry out of service for another three weeks

Wightlink will be extending its revised timetable until Tuesday 13th July 2021 and apologises for the inconvenience caused to customers who have had their sailing time changed by the ferry company. 

Engineers have carried out a full investigation of the mechanical failure that affected one of the engines onboard Wightlink’s largest ship Victoria of Wight last week and identified the repair work that needs to be done.  

The company has taken the decision to keep the vessel out of service to ensure that work can be completed before the school holidays. 

Two-boat service
The Portsmouth-Fishbourne route will continue as a two-boat service using the ferries St Clare and St Faith. These ships have capacity for all booked customers, but sailing times will need to change. 

Wightlink is contacting everyone who has tickets to travel over the next three weeks, in the order of their sailing time. Their booking will be moved to a different sailing. Full information is available on the Website.

Options for customers
All customers affected by the revised timetable have these options: 

  • Agree to travel at the alternative booked sailing time offered by Wightlink 
  • Change the booking to another sailing 
  • Take a voucher to the value of the affected crossing to use on a future sailing 
  • Ask for a full refund of the affected crossing 
  • Cancel the entire booking for a full refund

Wightlink Chief Executive Keith Greenfield, said,

“We are sorry this unavoidable change to our timetable will affect our customers.

“Our engineers are working hard to address the problem and Victoria of Wight will return to the schedule as soon as possible.  

“In the meantime, colleagues are doing their best to support customers and assist them to travel at a convenient time. As you may expect, our phone lines are already very busy so we would appeal to our customers, please, be patient and wait for us to contact you about your sailing.”
