Thanks to Clare for sharing news of the next Wild West Solent Swim. Ed
Following the tremendous success of the 2012 event when more than £30,000 was raised by 64 brave souls who took to the chilly waters of the Solent during the summer to raise money for the West Wight Sports Centre the date for 2013 has been announced!
Entries are now open for the Wild West Solent Swim which will take place on 18th August 2013.
£27,000+ raised this year
Over £27,000 of the money raised in 2012 went directly to the sport centre in Freshwater, while £3,000 was shared amongst 16 other charities.
It was the second time the event had been held, and saw swimmers aged 18 to 73 take to the water at Hurst Castle and finish at Colwell Bay. They were accompanied by over 40 kayakers and a flotilla of safety boats led by the Freshwater Inshore Lifeboat crew.
It was a fabulous morning. As a charity we rely heavily on fundraising activities and to raise £30,000 is an amazing achievement. We are so grateful to everyone who took part from the swimmers, kayakers, lifeboat crew as well as the team of volunteers on the shore who all made it happen.
