Iain McKie, the UKIP Isle of Wight candidate in the 2015 general election has responded to news that Paul Nuttall MEP has been elected as new UKIP leader. He had 61% of the vote.
The Isle of Wight member says,
“On Sunday 30th October Paul Nuttall MEP said publicly that he backs the reintroduction of the death penalty and would welcome a referendum on the issue. Now that he is Leader of the Party I have concerns for the future of UKIP.
“For as long as I can remember I have been opposed to capital punishment and am appalled that it could be returning to the UK political agenda.
“In the event of a referendum on it become UKIP policy I will leave the party immediately.
“In the meantime I will campaign fervently for it not to be adopted.”
