Woman arrested after windscreens of more than 20 cars in quiet village smashed

The windscreens of more than 20 cars in Niton were smashed over the weekend and a woman from the village has been arrested.

Some reports claimed the damage was inflicted with a metal bar, others, including the police, say it was with a baseball bat.

The damage coincided with Storm Babet, which meant affected residents were frantically taping over the broken windows in order to protect their vehicles from any further damage.

Isle of Wight Police told News OnTheWight that they were called shortly after 8.30am on Saturday 21st October to reports that a woman was damaging a number of cars with a baseball bat on Chatfield Road, Niton.

The spokesperson added,

“Police attended and arrested a 33-year-old woman from Niton on suspicion of criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon.”

The woman has been bailed until 21st January 2024, while enquiries continue.
