Woman’s body recovered in the Solent (updated)

A spokesperson for Cowes RNLI have confirmed they were called to assist in the recovery of a body from the Solent this lunchtime.

Crews are still out on the water after being called by police to assist at Bramble Bank around 1pm (Monday).

The body will be taken to Empress Dock in Southampton.

We’ll update you once we have more information from the police, but in the meantime our thoughts are with all those affected.

A report of a body in the Solent, north of Bramble Bank, lead to Cowes RNLI lifeboat being launched soon after 1pm today.

Solent Coastguards were initially told of a person in the water by the 42 foot yacht Alchemy. The yacht stood by the body until the arrival of the lifeboat, later joined by the police launch Preventer.

The lifeboat crew assisted the police in recovering the body, and the police launch eventually landed it at Empress Dock, Southampton.

The lifeboat returned to station at 2pm

Family and friends of missing Rebecca Allan have been informed by police of a body found in the water in the Calshot area earlier today (Monday).

The 40-year-old from Lymington was last seen at the Old Gaffers Festival on the Isle of Wight over the weekend.

The discovery of the body is not being treated as suspicious.

Formal identification and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
