World AIDS Day: Head to Quay Arts for commemorative event

There will be an event at Quay Arts, Newport on Wednesday 1st December, World AIDS Day, from 12.30 until 2.30pm.

The venue was used for one of the UK’s first AIDS awareness events in the late 1980s.

It’s an opportunity to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness and to support people living with HIV, as highlighted in this year’s Channel 4 hit series, It’s A Sin which referenced the Isle of Wight.

LGBTQ+ community supporters
You can meet representatives from organisations who support the Island’s LGBTQ+ community including Anna Murray, Sexual Health Promotion Practitioner from Solent NHS Trust.

Volunteers from Out On An Island can talk about this Isle of Wight LGBTQ+ history project and plans to launch the project’s book in February 2022.

Pride plans
Isle of Wight Pride will also be there and you can hear about plans for next year’s event on 16th July and how to volunteer.

BreakOut Youth is part of No Limits charity and supports young people aged 11 to 25 who are LGBTQ+ or questioning their sexuality. It has recently resumed face to face meetings on the Island and there are still opportunities for virtual meetings.

Everyone is welcome to come along to the cafe to this relaxed event to meet others and access services and support.
