The next time you’re in town check out the display window at Wendy’s in the High Street.

This has been adorned with an array of bright cheerful flags which are being made to replace the worn out bunting used during summer carnival.

Newly launched, locally based organisation ‘communityartsandcultureiw’ (caaciw) has announced their first project which will be benefiting Ventnor.

The project called ‘Flags for Ventnor’ is looking to make bunting flags, replacing the existing street bunting which after many years of use has come to the end of its life.

The new flags are to be made with fun festival designs and colours. Wendy’s in the High Street will have a window display of some of the flag samples made so far.

It is hoped that local residents will help with their making, people are needed for cutting out patterns and machine stitching, any volunteers can leave their details at Wendy’s or e-mail flagsforventnor(at)caaciw.org.uk.

Fund raising starts this week to cover the cost of buying materials to make the nine hundred flags needed to make the 500 metres of bunting required for the Town Centre, the organisers are appealing for all businesses and residents to support the project by sponsoring a flag, many, shops, cafes and pubs will be given collection boxes for people to make donations.

You can phone 853216 and speak to Rob Chuter the organisations chairperson if you would like further information, or wish to make a direct donation.
