Yellow weather warning extended for Isle of Wight amid torrential downpours

The Met Office have updated their yellow ‘be alert’ weather warning for the Isle of Wight today (Tuesday).

The warning is now valid until 3pm:

An area of heavy rain and showers will move eastwards, clearing the east of the warning area by mid afternoon.

“Sudden, torrential downpours will bring 15-20 mm of rain in a short period of time, with lightning and hail possible in a few places.

“Isolated gusts of wind to 40-50 mph are also possible.

What to expect

  • Possibly some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes or strong and gusty winds
  • There is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus
  • Delays to train services and journeys by plane are possible
  • Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
