No Mans Land Fort - off Seaview:

Find out how to get involved in RIBA’s Young Designers competition

Thanks to Steph Austin for sharing details of this competition on behalf of the Isle of Wight branch of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). Ed

We are calling on young people aged between 5 and 18 years old across the Island to design a new and imaginative way to use the No Man’s Land Fort located in the Solent off Seaview.

Can you turn a previously unused structure into something fun for everyone to enjoy?

Background on the fort
No Man’s Land Fort is one of a chain of round forts built in the Solent. These were built in response to possible invasion by Napoleon III. This threat eventually came to nothing and they were never used for their original purpose.

In the First and Second World War the fort was used as a gun battery and searchlight base, and in WWII as an anti-aircraft gun platform.

Currently it is being renovated to provide a new Spa, Hotel, Events Venue and film location .. But can you design your own different and exciting use for it?

Allow your creative juices to flow
We would like you to be as creative, outrageous and imaginative as possible! Anything and everything will be considered!

All shortlisted entries will be exhibited at the RIBA Awards Ceremony and both the winners and shortlisted entries will be published.

This year the competition will be going out to the Architects of the Island as well, so you will be able to see what designs they come up with!
