More young people see the benefits of Isle of Wight Scouts

Thanks to Malcolm for this latest news from IW Scouts. Ed

Since the Centenary of Scouting in 2007, the number of Scouts on the Isle of Wight has increased by around 6% per year. In the nine months since January this year, the number of young people in Isle of Wight Scouts has risen by an amazing 10%.

Isle of Wight Scouts’ Media Development Manager, Malcolm Cox, attributed this increase to their “Access All Areas” initiative, saying

“At the beginning of the year we received a grant from the Isle of Wight Council to help us develop our services to Island Youth. With additional funding from Scout Headquarters we now have a full time Regional Development Officer, Kelly Reay, as part of the Island Scouting team, assisting in our growth and increasing our integration into the Island Community.”

Isle of Wight Scouts County Commissioner, Paul Savill, went on to say,

“We have taken every available opportunity to open scouting to more young people across the Island. If you check out our Website you will find a Scout group near you.

“In January we had just under 1,200 young people in our Scout groups and Explorer units, we now have over 1,320, which is fantastic news. We intend to keep on growing to let as many families as possible have an everyday adventure here on the Island and though more planned trips across the world.”

Regional Development Officer Kelly Reay added:

“Actually working in Scouting and being able to help in the development of Island Youth is probably the best job I could ever have. To see this amazing growth in our numbers makes me proud to be a Scout.”

Volunteers always welcome
Of course, as well as welcoming new young people to Scouts, we are always ready to welcome adults to help us provide the ever expanding programme of activities and development that make up the Scouting adventure.
