Your Party to launch Isle of Wight branch in Newport

Residents from across the Isle of Wight are being invited to attend the launch of the first official Your Party branch on Saturday 6th June in Newport.

What the branch aims to do
The event, which begins at 5.30pm, marks the establishment of a new community organising hub on the island, bringing together local people interested in campaigning on issues affecting their communities.

Your Party says its local branches are designed to support and strengthen campaigns already taking place on the ground, from housing and public services to workers’ rights, anti-racism, international solidarity and community action.

Officer elections and national involvement
The launch comes as members who joined before 12th May take part in elections for the branch’s first officer team, with the results set to be announced during the evening.

Representatives from Your Party’s national team will attend the event, while Jeremy Corbyn MP will address attendees via video link.

Community Assembly open to all
As part of the launch, local residents will be invited to participate in a Community Assembly, giving people the opportunity to discuss the issues facing the Isle of Wight and explore how collective action can help bring about change.

Organisers stress that attendance is open to everyone and that people do not need to be members of Your Party to take part.

Those interested are also welcome to simply attend on the evening and meet others involved in local community organising.

Organiser explains the vision
Chris White, a member of the organising group behind the new branch, said,

“The Isle of Wight has a strong tradition of people looking out for one another and standing up for their communities. We’re launching this branch because we believe local people should have more power to shape the decisions that affect their lives.

“This isn’t just about politics, it’s about bringing people together around the issues they care about, whether that’s housing, public services, the cost of living, protecting our environment, supporting workers’ rights or tackling inequality.

“We want this branch to be a welcoming space where people can organise, share ideas and take action together. Whether you’ve been politically active for years or have never attended a meeting before, we’d love to see you there.”
