Dr Bruce Denness: Drainage Could Slow Down Erosion on Military Road (Podcast)

Last updated:

In the last of our series of podcasts from the IWALC (the Isle of Wight Association of Local Councils) meeting that was held to discuss the future of the Military Road, we speak with Dr Bruce Denness.

Bruce Denness: Military Road Short Term Solution (Podcast)Dr Denness presented his solution to the slow down the ever increasing erosion at Brook.

He’s a geologist and local environmental consultant, so well qualified to talk on the matter.

Dr Denness’ suggestion is that rather than spending millions of pounds on tackling the problem (which the council or Government clearly don’t have), by spending just tens of thousands of pounds, he believes that it may be possible to slow down the erosion in the short term.

This approach would allow time to consider viable alternatives (rather than just re-routing traffic through Brook) or even perhaps European funding bids.

His plans are to install proper drainage to the area, interrupting the groundwater flow from inland, which is currently softening the clay and leading to fast erosion.

Dr Denness confirmed that he is in talks with the council and that the solution could be implemented within a matter of weeks if the money was allocated.
