The prospect of large scale housing developments in rural areas has sparked some residents to form a campaign group.
A Facebook Page, entitled ‘Keep It Rural’, was created a couple of days ago and will be used to spread news of the campaign and gather support.
The campaign intends to oppose large scale development in eleven rural villages across the Island which the Isle of Wight council have highlighted suitable for development.
They are Arreton, Bembridge, Brading, Brighstone, Godshill, Niton, Rookley, St Helens. Wootton, Wroxall and Yarmouth.
Arreton development for 89 dwellings
Plans for a development of 89 dwellings in Arreton went online today for public comment. This is one of the applications that the campaign group aim to fight.
Villagers have already set up the Arreton Villagers Against Development (AVAD) group and members from Keep It Rural say they intend to support them throughout the planning process.
Public meeting
A public meeting was held on Sunday which attracted 50+ villagers, another is being held with the Parish Council on Monday 21st January at the Methodist Church in Arreton between 7pm to 9:30pm (New meeting detail below) to discuss the development. All are invited to attend.
New meeting date
Update 24.Jan.13: We’re told today that a new meeting has been arranged to replace the one previously scheduled for the 21st. It will now take place at Arreton community centre on 29th January between 7:30-9:30. As before, all welcome.
Comments on the Arreton plans are due in by close of business on 1st February 2013.
