Frank James Hospital: Continued frustration over lack of action

Campaigners to protect the former Frank James hospital in East Cowes have expressed their continued frustration at what they refer to as a lack of action from the Isle of Wight council.

The Friends reported damage at the hospital was getting to the point of being irreversible without significant cost. They say water streams in through multiple holes in the roof and walls causing extensive damage.

Legal fund offered
The ongoing saga of getting the council to issue an Urgent Works Notice on the owners of the former hospital received a boost last month when it was announced the organisation Campaign Against Delinquent Ownership (CADO) offered to contribute £4,000 to (possible) legal costs.

Cost could fall to the council
However, OnTheWight understands that if an Urgent Works Notice is issued and the owners of Frank James do not act on it, the cost and liability to carry out the works would fall to the council.

Given the large budget gaps in Government funding, it’s likely that Frank James will not be a high priority for spend in the foreseeable future.
