Police are appealing for witnesses after two men broke into a house in George Street, Ryde on Saturday, April 18 at about 9pm.

The 37-year-old woman who lives at the address returned home to her flat to find one man still in her lounge. She managed to call police and prevent him leaving.

Man arrested
Officers arrested a 42-year-old man from the Island on suspicion of aggravated burglary. He has now been bailed pending further enquiries until Thursday, May 14.

A second man was seen to enter the flat but it’s believed he had gone before the woman returned home. The men got in through a lounge window after trying to kick in a communal door at another set of flats a few doors away.

Did you see anyone acting suspiciously?
Officers are now trying to find any witnesses who may have seen the burglars or anyone acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the incident.

Nothing was taken in the burglary and it’s thought the men were actually targeting another address but got the wrong location.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Detective Constable David Pain at Newport CID or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
