Appeal after police vehicle involved in Sandown collision

Police are appealing for information after a police vehicle was involved in a collision with a car in Sandown.

Around 1pm on Friday (24th April), a police BMW X5 was in collision with a VW Golf on Broadway at the junction with Carter Street.

The police vehicle was responding to an emergency call at the time.

The VW driver, a 65-year-old woman, had to be released from her car by the Fire and Rescue Service.

Taken to hospital
Both she and the police driver, a 52-year-old man, were taken to St Mary’s hospital by ambulance.

The police officer was later discharged and the woman treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The road was closed for three hours while police recovered and investigated the scene.
