For the past two years, Islander Lois Prior has been putting her creative skills to the test.
The results have been impressive and even more so when you learn they have helped raise £1,200 for good causes.
Cheerful paintings during a stressful time
Lois told News OnTheWight,
“I started painting Isle of Wight landscapes and buildings during the Coronavirus Lockdown, putting the pictures onto social media and asking people to guess where they were.
“The paintings are colourful and cheerful.”
Son seriously injured
Lois went on to explain,
“In December 2020 my son was involved in a road traffic collision, resulting in serious injury. He was airlifted to Southampton Trauma Centre.
“Before his injury, a friend had suggested that I put some of my paintings into a calendar.
“During my son’s recovery, I went ahead with this, to raise money for local causes. I continued to paint in 2021 and produced a second calendar.”
Charities who benefited
Over the two years £1,200 has been raised from the sales of calendars, going to Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance (who airlifted my son), Isle of Wight Foodbank and Age UK Isle of Wight (for a new defibrillator battery).
Lois finished by saying,
“The leftover calendars will go to a local charity shop to sell, so they won’t get wasted and will still be raising money for good causes.”
