As VB revealed over a week ago, the Isle of Wight Council is planning to reverse their decision to abolish Tourist Parking Permits this year.
This has now been confirmed in papers prepared in advance of a delegated decision to be taken before 15 April that they will again be made available until after the Summer season.
Unconfirmed reports suggested that hoteliers across the Island threatened to take legal action against the council if they dropped Tourist parking permits, as the hotels had already printed their brochures including the permits, thus committing them to it.
The way the IWC papers express it gives weight to this theory, “Subsequent representations have been received from accommodation providers to the effect that their publicity material trails the tourist parking permit and that reservations have been made on the basis of the availability of such a permit.”
Price increases – up to 56%
What’s been revealed in addition in the papers is the size of the proposed increase in pricing that tourist would pay.
The previously-most-popular permit – two days – would increase by 10% to £11.
The largest proposed rise is in the two week permit, which would jump 56% to £70. Average increase is around 23%.
The IWC hopes that it will raise an additional £22,755 through the price rises.
