Longtime VB readers will remember the planning application back in 2007 for a large scale development on the site of the Mill Bay pub on Ventnor seafront.
The proposed six-story building raised huge opposition from Ventnor residents and was duly rejected by the Isle of Wight Planning Committee on the grounds of “Scale, Mass and Height of the building was too great”.
New plans submitted
New plans were made public on the Isle of Wight Council Website last week for “Demolition of conservatory, alterations and extension to include formation of flat over new extension, terrace of three 3 storey town houses, construction of 5 storey block of four flats, with retail unit at ground floor level, associated parking”.
Artist’s impressions
The accompanying documents include a couple of artist’s impression of what the new buildings might look like.
Comparing the regulated plans with the unregulated ‘impression’ of the view from the bandstand show up a significant difference in the height of the building in comparison with The Metropole, making the new development look smaller than the actual plans show.
Comments by 11 June
Hopefully those looking to comment on the application will ensure they scrutinise the draughted plans rather than rely upon the artist’s impression for what impact this proposed development will have on Ventnor Bay.
The planning application is now out for public consultation, comments must be submitted by close of business on 11th June 2010.
Full details of the application with drawings can be found on the IWC planning Website
