The Isle of Wight Council is looking for volunteer cycle ride leaders for the Island’s biggest cycling event – the Isle of Wight Cycling Festival, 17 to 25 September.
With around 200 miles of cycling paths and 12 marked routes many passing through Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Island continues to attract both serious and leisure cyclists, and last year was named as one of the ‘world’s best cycling routes’ in the Best in Travel Guide, published by The Lonely Planet, the largest travel guide and digital media publishers in the world.
Share your favourite routes
Keen to promote cycling as an environmentally friendly way for visitors to experience the Island as well as providing a programme of events that will benefit the Island’s cycling community, the council is now looking to expand its team of dedicated cycling enthusiasts.
Claire Critchison, Isle of Wight Council events officer said: “If you are an experienced cyclist and would like to share your favourite route with others then we would love to hear from you.
“Each day of the week-long festival we offer cyclists the opportunity to take part in a variety of rides that take in the most picturesque areas of the Island as well as local landmarks and the occasional country pub!
“The event has gone from strength to strength over the years and we are now looking to increase our team of dedicated cyclists.
“No qualifications are needed as enthusiasm and the ability to get on with other people is more important to us.”

Between 17 and 25 September, the Isle of Wight Cycling Festival will offer participants a unique experience in exploring their surroundings – visitors can escape into a tranquil, traffic-free landscape or experience an invigorating, off-road mountain bike trail through the most spectacular scenery the Island has to offer.
