The amount of money that is paid to park in Isle of Wight car parks has increased by over half a million pounds in a year.
In the year ending March 2010, the Isle of Wight council received £1,418,888 from the public putting money in to the car park machines. This increased £518,501 to £1,937,389 for the year 2010/2011.
The council made the unpopular decision to increase parking charges across the Island in 2010 while abolishing the £75/year Island resident parking permit.
The previous year’s rise was only £38,451 between 2009 (£1,380,437) and 2010.
