The former County Councillor, Alan Wells, was elected as Chairman of the Isle of Wight Conservative Association last night, the CP reports.
He told the CP, “I would like to unify the party and its work on the Island.” This is at odds with someone claming to be a long-standing member of the IW Conservative Association wrote to VB earlier this week.
They revealed several details relating to what they claimed showed “relentless in-fighting among our ranks”.Several threaten resignation
We’ve not been able to verify any of the points revealed, in the email, but the “lifelong Tory”, also claimed that several councillors and prominent supporters had been threatening resignation if Cllr Wells was elected.
Given now that Cllr Wells has now been elected, it will be interesting to see whether this information was accurate or not.
The role that Alan Wells has just gained was previously held by Dona Ratcliff, after a four-year maximum term.
Alan Wells founded the successful Island company AJ Wells, which incorporates Charnwood stoves.
Conservative government?
Those who read the CP report of the election result may be been a little puzzled by Cllr Wells’ comment.
He told the CP, “We have a Conservative Government, a Conservative council and a Conservative MP, so we should be flying. Politically we are potentially in a very strong position and I hope we can go forward with that.”
Perhaps it was the excitment of the election that distracted him, but we are under the impression that it was a coalition Government, not Conservative.
