Last Sunday, a one-day community festival held in Los Altos Park, in Sandown ended on a high. A great time was had by all at the Funtasia Day Festival, which saw live music and plenty of entertainment throughout the day.
That was until 3am on Monday morning when vandals decided to set fire to the Biffa bins on loan for the event.
Insurance ran out at midnight
Unfortunately for those organising the event, they can’t claim on their insurance as it ran out at midnight on Sunday.
This means they now need to find £3,500 to cover the cost.
Upon hearing the news of this act of vandalism, the local community is coming to together to help where they can.
We hear that Wight Fencing have cancelled their invoice for supplying fencing for the event and an online auction has been set up.
Online auction
Local, Tracey Smith is pulling together the week-long online auction to help raise the money needed.
The auction will run next week from Monday 5th August at 6pm until 6pm on 11th August.
Any money raised through the auction will help with the costs of damage to the bins.
If you are a local business and would be able to donate items for the auction, please get in touch with Tracey through Facebook
Other ways to donate
If you would like to give a cash donation pop into the Sandown Carnival shop, 77a High St, Sandown.
