B3322 Alum Bay New Road Needles fireworks displays. On each Thursday evening on July 31 and August 7, 14, 21 & 28 August 2014 fireworks extravaganza displays will take place at The Needles Park at Alum Bay. When parking is full at The Needles Park a road closure will be in operation in Alum Bay New Road. If this occurs event goers should then find an alternative location to park, beyond the junc of Alum Bay New Road/Alum Bay Old Road. Access to the Needles Park will be restricted when parking at The Needles Park is full in the interests of public and road safety. This is likely from approximately 7 to 7.30pm until 10pm on each evening, but could be as early as 2 to 2.30pm in the afternoon especially if the weather is good. COWES:
Cowes Main Carnival Procession is due to form up in Ward Avenue between Park Road and Crossfield Avenue at 5.30pm and leave at 7pm on Wednesday 30 July 2014. The carnival procession will pass along the following route: Park Road, Victoria Road, Mill Hill Road, Birmingham Road, Shooters Hill, High Street, Bath Road, and The Parade where it is due arrive at approx. 8.15pm. COWES AND GURNARD AREA: COWES WEEK FESTIVAL:
Various traffic and parking restrictions will be introduced in certain roads between 5.30pm on Saturday 26 July and Tuesday 12 August 2014 in connection with Cowes Week Festival.
Cowes Week Festival takes place between Saturday 2 and Saturday 9 August 2014. No parking will be permitted on The Parade from 5.30pm on Saturday 26 July until Tuesday 12 August 2014 due to a tented village and No access to The Parade will be possible from Castle Hill during this period. The Parade, Union Road, Market Hill, Castle Hill, Baring Road, High Street, Bath Road, Queens Road, Castle Road, Sun Hill and Bars Hill will each have restricted access. Deliveries in these roads should be made as far as possible before 10am during Cowes Week. One-way traffic restrictions will be in operation (from Ward between 6am on Friday 1 August and Tuesday 12 August 2014;
In Baring Road (traffic will only be permitted to travel in the direction from Ward Avenue to Castle Road), in Castle Hill (traffic will only be permitted to travel in the direction from Castle Road to Queens Road and in Queens Road (traffic will only be permitted to travel in the direction from Castle Hill to Egypt Hill). Additional Parking will be available on the grassed area adjacent to Northwood House (weather permitting) from Friday 1 until Saturday 9 August 2014 and on fireworks night, at Cowes Football Club & at Cowes Community Club (both off Park Road).
COWES WEEK BUS & TAXI ARRANGEMENTS:
Buses: On each night Sundays to Thursdays (Monday to Friday Mornings) the last bus from Cowes to Newport will be at 12.41am. On Friday and Saturday nights (Saturday and Sunday mornings) the last bus will operate from Cowes to Newport at just after 4am. Duplicate buses will run if required.
Taxis: From Friday 1 August until Sunday 10 August 2014, In the interest of safety the lower section of Terminus Road will be closed from Carvel Lane to the High Street and the High Street will also be closed between approx. 7pm and 3am on each night/ morning.
Please note: There will be no access to Town Quay (Red Funnel Terminal) taxi rank and the High Street (except in an emergency) whilst these closures are in operation.
The taxi rank outside the Co-op will operate as usual but for only 3 vehicles at one time with a holding area in Terminus Road outside the dentist.
In the evenings throughout the week, a temporary taxi rank will also be provided in Birmingham Road outside the Golden Dragon / Cowes Methodist Church to prevent people having to go back through the town to get a taxi if they are in premises outside of the High Street. On fireworks night an additional taxi rank will be in operation in Park Road. This will be located on the northwest side of the road on the War Avenue side of the entrance to Park Road Car Park.
EAST COWES:
Esplanade will be closed from 2.30pm on Friday 25 April 2014 for the foreseeable future between 375 metres to the northeast of Cambridge Road and the end of the highway 860 metres to the northeast of Cambridge Road. There is no alternative route for traffic. This closure is necessary to avoid danger to persons or other traffic using the road due to a landslip. Ryde Main Carnival Procession 2014
North Walk & The Esplanade (from Dover Street to The Strand) will be closed and no parking will be possible to enable Ryde Main Carnival procession to form up/disband from 3pm on Saturday 2 August 2014. The procession is due to leave North Walk and The Esplanade at 5pm and travel via: Dover Street, Park Road, Star Street, High Street, St Thomas Square, Union Street, Esplanade (South carriageway to Dover Street and Dover Street (from Esplanade to Melville Street) where the carnival is due to arrive back at approx. 6pm. In the interests of road pedestrian safety Union Street will probably remain closed for approx 20 minutes after the procession has passed through. All of the roads on the route (including Union Street) should be re-opened by approx. 7.45pm to 8pm. ST LAWRENCE:
A3055 Undercliff Drive will remain closed from St Catherine’s Road to Seven Sisters Road (Western Junction), between Barrington Lodge, near to the western junction with Seven Sisters Road and Mirables which is located about a mile towards Niton. Following significant ground movement in the area in early February 2014, Undercliff Drive has been physically closed between Mirables (in the west) and a point 560 metres to the West of Seven Sisters Road (in the east) for safety reasons. There is now no access for vehicles or pedestrians. The Isle of Wight Council, working with partner agencies including Island Roads and with support from the army, led an operation in February to help residents of nine properties in Undercliff Drive
(in an area known as ‘Woodlands’) remove possessions from their homes after they were advised to leave for safety reasons. A formal road and footpath closure will be in operation from Saturday 15 February for the foreseeable future. VENTNOR:
Bath Road. A one way restriction will be in operation from La Falaise car Park to Belgrave Road between 9am on Tuesday 29 October 2013 until approx. late in 2014. The restriction is due to the reduction in road for the protection to masonry at retaining wall R1074 above a property called Seacourt. At the end of the works Bath Road will return to two way traffic. DIVERSION ROUTE: Belgrave Road, Zig Zag Road, Alpine Road, Church Street, Hambrough Road, Shore Hill, Esplanade and Bath Road.
Longdown Steps Public Footpath V102 will be closed from 10am on Monday 12 May until 10am on Thursday 20 November 2014 between South Street and St Catherine’s Street. This closure is necessary to avoid danger to persons using the footpath until wall repair works have been undertaken. The diversion route for pedestrians will be; South Street, West Street, High Street, Victoria Street, Wheelers Bay Road and St Catherine’s Street.
