Anyone who has walked along the seafront between Ventnor and Bonchurch this summer would have seen the old council-owned public toilets lovingly transformed into a wonderful new cafe, Seapot.
The cafe, set up and run by Kerry and James O’Reilly, has been a very welcome addition to walkers and Ventnorians alike. They’ve put a huge amount of work into the conversion and running the business.
“Burgled and trashed”
Unfortunately, due to an unexpected incident that took place over the weekend, the cafe has had to be closed until further notice.
Kerry and James posted the following message on social media yesterday (Monday),
“It is with great regret that we will be shut until further notice. This is due to the fact that some delightful ***** have burgled and completely trashed our beloved Seapot overnight, they even ate crisps and ice creams whilst at it!”
Fans of the cafe left over 80 comments of support on their Facebook page.
Kerry told OnTheWight that her ‘lovely friends’ helped clean up and secure the premises yesterday and today is being spent restocking. She hopes to reopen tomorrow (Wednesday).
Police investigation
Police say that sometime between 10pm on Sunday night and 10.25am on Monday morning, someone broke into the cafe. They also confirm they are investigating the incident, which included burglary of stock, some of which was found nearby.
If you saw or know anything, please call PC Claire Smith at Ryde police station on 101.
