Weston Academy has been rated as Inadequate by Ofsted following an inspection in January.
Formerly a ‘Good’ school, the primary in Totland will now be placed in Special Measures.
The Inspector found the teaching and pupils’ achievement to be inadequate, adding that “leaders have not effectively challenged or supported teachers to improve”.
The new headteacher was recognised by the inspector as passionate and hardworking in her efforts to improve the academy.
Improvements required
To improve the school, it must:
- Rapidly improve teaching, to accelerate progress in reading, writing and mathematics for all groups of pupils and improve the quality, presentation and amount of work pupils produce
- Improve the effectiveness of the school’s leadership and management
- Urgently improve the effectiveness of the early years provision
