Island Line: KILF respond to DfT consultation

The Keep Island Line in Franchise (KILF) Group have submitted their official response to the Department for Transport (DfT) public consultation on the south western train franchise which includes Island Line.

Their 19 page response details their concerns about the future of Island Line including including running costs and lease arrangements and comprehensively responds to the consultation questions.

“A separate and self-sustaining business”
The DfT’s proposal, which they assured residents at the public meeting in December was not set in stone, suggested,

“The next operator will be required to work with the council, community and stakeholders to develop plans to turn the Island Line, which serves the Isle of Wight, into a separate and self-sustaining business during the life of the next franchise.”

Much of the legal input to the submission was contributed by Warren Drew, who lives in Lake and regularly uses Island Line, as he works in the City.
