We are now in a position to confirm the name of the man who died this morning (Feb 15) following an assault in St James’ Street, Newport, at 4am on Feb 14.
He was Gary (Jeffrey) Stacey, 49, of Carisbrooke, Isle of Wight.
Post mortem
A Home Office post mortem is taking place this afternoon (Feb 15).
A 21-year-old man and a 20-year-old man who were arrested in connection with this incident have been released with no further action.
Suspicion of murder
A 20-year-old man remains in custody and is being questioned on suspicion of murder.
