Ryde Arena - a nice ice rink

Ryde Arena closes: Bailiffs change locks without notice

The Community organisation that runs Ryde Arena has this morning confirmed its closure.

According to a member of the Ryde Arena Trust, bailiffs have changed the locks on the Isle of Wight’s only ice rink.

On their Facebook Page the group stated,

“We are currently closed due to a dispute with the landlord which we have been trying to resolve.

“RAL are hoping to give a further update when there is any change in the situation.”

Bubbling away for eight weeks
Ian Jenkins, of the Ryde Arena Trust, told the County Press that bailiffs had changed the locks at the venue last night (Wednesday) and he was trying to contact the rink’s owner.

He said,

“It has been bubbling away for about eight weeks, but there was no notice given and there has been no court order or procedure followed.”

Meanwhile, lessons at the arena and ice hockey games scheduled for the weekend have had to be cancelled.

Parents of children with skates locked inside the venue have expressed their anger and concern on social media.
