2023 Merlin Rocket National Championships return to the Solent: Brading Haven Yacht Club hosts

Brading Haven Yacht Club hosted the 2023 Merlin Rocket National Championships, from 30th July to 3rd August.

30 crews ventured their way across the Solent, the first time this had happened since 1949, when the event was held on Cowes Esplanade and was won by Jack Holt.

The five days of racing was reduced to three days due to strong winds, but eight races were still achieved in a variety of conditions, on a race course located between St Helens Fort and the Bembridge RNLI Station.

Securing the National Title
The event was dominated by Christian Birrell and Sam Brearey who secured the National Title with two races to spare.

The Club would like to thank all the volunteers who crewed the Committee and Patrol Boats during the week, as well as those who supported the Onshore and Social Activities.

Supporters
A special mention should also be made to Malcolm and Fiona Thorpe and their team at Bembridge Harbour who generously allowed us to use the beach at Bembridge for the boat and car parking and who sponsored the daily prizes.

Also, our thanks to Mermaid Gin who provided products for our competitor welcome packs.

Next event
The next event at Brading Haven will be the Annual Regatta over the weekend of Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th August.
