Isle of Wight Festival 2014 Ferris Wheel - Simon Haytack

24 year old ‘brutally assaulted’ at Isle of Wight Festival claim family (updated)

Relatives of a 24 year old man from Sandown have alleged he was ‘brutally assaulted’ by six security guards on Sunday night at the Isle of Wight Festival.

OnTheWight was told the incident has been reported to the police, who – the victim’s sister says – are “sourcing information and taking witness statements”.

“Left him unconscious on the side of the road”
Several members of the extended family have spoken openly on social media about the incident. The following message by one of the victim’s sisters was posted on Facebook on Monday night,

“So last night while most of you were enjoying Kings of Leon at the IOW Festival my brother was being brutally assaulted by 6 of the security men in the back of a land-rover just by the main stage.

“He was held down and repeatedly kicked and punched in all over his body including his head! They robbed him and left him unconscious on the side of the road – for NO REASON!

“These men need to be caught, how many other people did this happen to this weekend? The police are involved but we want this to go public!!”

OnTheWight has been in touch with the police and Festival organisers for comment and will update once we hear back.

Update 10.21am
A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman told OnTheWight,

“We can confirm a report of an assault at the Isle of Wight Festival is being investigated by police. Enquiries are continuing to establish exactly what happened.”

Update 11.32am
A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Festival told OnTheWight,

“We were made aware of the alleged incident on Monday. We take these matters seriously and it is now in the hands of the Police.”

Me and a mate were around the same area towards the end of the festi on the sunday too and unfortunately didnt see this happening otherwise would of helped poor man without a doubt. But we also were threatened to be thrown in the back of a landrover and taken somewhere and beaten. That was the foreign ones hardly spoke a word of English we thought they… Read more »

Perhaps you should report this to the Police? These may be the same cretins that were responsible for this assault.

That’s almost unbelievably aggressive behaviour. Publicising this shocking occurrence may well be all that’ll happen, as our laws frequently appear to protect the criminal. And that they were in uniform renders them almost untouchable.
I sincerely wish you Good Luck in achieving justice, or at least satisfaction!

Staff very aggressive inside – security guard had very aggressive evil face and when a drunk man jumped the bar queue – the man was clearly completely drunk and wasted, he was treated like an animal then served more alcohol! Don’t know if same security firm but apparently at bestival if you try jump the fence you get beaten and dropped a long way from site in… Read more »

I hope the Police & John Giddings read these comments as this is just disgraceful. I think the photo of the man which was posted on FB who appeared to be a security guard should be shown in all media too…

Hi, a similar incident happened to me on the Friday night. As I was vacating the main stage area heading towards the strawberry fields a group of 5 or 6 foreign security guards started shouting at me saying I had to leave, when I resisted I was man handled and dragged off of the festival site via some side entrance/exit. I then had my wristband yanked off… Read more »

Me, my girlfriend and two other friends (one of which is a solicitor) were shouted at, sworn at, threatened and man handled whilst queueing for food late on the Saturday night just as things were coming to a close, by 5 or 6 security guards from Manchester & Liverpool judging by their accents. When I retorted I was told to f*** off or get the s**t kicked… Read more »

In an ideal world: All those responsible for providing these thugs a platform to act out their aggressive needs should be punished so severely that they will never ever think again of hiring thugs. And as for those aggressive 2-legged beasts, I would like them to be permanently removed from our society (as I don’t believe them capable of reform). This should never have happened, and should… Read more »

A brave media person who might ask John Giddings about this, and risk losing any festival-related perks: or worse, by the sound of it!

@Tryme.

Absolutely!

It has come to something when a blind eye is cast on morality for the sake of profit.

Sally & Simon, you would do well to ask Mr Giddings for a statement regarding this matter, it is utterly reprehensible if true and there’s plenty of reports suggesting that it’s true.

Throwing folk in the back of a land rover for a good beating, really?

I have contacted Hampshire police regarding an attack by security guards at the Strongbow Gardens after Travis had finished in the big top stage. I can’t comment anymore as I’m awaiting contact from the police regarding what was an unprovoked attack on an innocent festival goer. I chatted to a mate that was in red 5 car park who also see his friend whom we’d met up… Read more »

Makes me feel sick just to read this. We don’t behave like that on the Island, and don’t want to import it. I hope complainants don’t get bought off to avoid publicity, as these allegations and the defendants need to go to Court.

I have absolutely no doubt these thugs weren’t from the IOW. My girlfriend and me stayed over a number of days before the festival and had a lovely time on the island. My only gripe is people want to drive too fast, especially on the narrow winding lanes. If the ferry wasn’t so expensive we’d visit more regular. Though I guess that’s what makes the IOW what… Read more »
