The Somerset Care Group has confirmed to OnTheWight they will be closing residential care home, Osborne Cottage in East Cowes, next month.
According to a spokesperson from Unison, the closure will result in the loss of 26 jobs and means the eight elderly residents will have to leave their homes.
Notice served
A notice with an action plan has been served by the not-for-profit company, they say to “ensure safe and supportive arrangements for residents, their families and staff during the notice period until the actual closure day of 15th October”.
Osborne Cottage “has simply become unviable”
Somerset Care Chief Executive Alyson Martin told OnTheWight,
“Sadly, despite looking for alternative solutions, the home has simply become unviable.
“Our main priority at this difficult time is to ensure the continuity of care of our residents and we are in talks with them and their family members to make sure that each person gets the right support for them.”
Somerset Care say they are working closely with Isle of Wight Council and keeping all affected parties informed.
