50th MacNaughton-Howe Arts and Craft Festival

joan bakers teddyLast week the Ventnor Winter Gardens was host to the 50th MacNaughton-Howe Arts and Craft Festival.

We popped down there on Thursday afternoon to have a browse and were really impressed with the quality of some of the entries. I went back on Friday for the prize-giving but got there late and just caught the end where Joan Baker was being presented with Best in Show prize for her fantastic knitted teddy. The detail on this gorgeous teddy is incredible, I don’t know if Joan plans to part with it, but she might want to consider auctioning it off for charity …. she would’ve had many takers that day.

There were many names I recognised in the entries, some surprises even … and it’s great to see that even our new town mayor, Brian Lucas has gallons of creative blood in him. I spotted at least three entries by him.

exhibitionThe Dolls House group put together an amazing replica of the exhibition and the Creative Textiles workshop displayed a gorgeous sea scene that I really wanted to dive into. Sadly, there was no touching allowed!

The quality of photography was superb and the entries from St Boniface school really special.

The organisers are really keen to get more people, especially the kids, involved next year. The variety of work entered is quite vast, so I’m sure anyone who put their mind to it, could well become a winner.
