Silas Gregory receiving his award and Next Wave Magazine and Tape

AAA Records Awards showcases the best of Isle of Wight’s music scene #4

It’s day four of the AAA Records annual Awards.

Over the coming week or so AAA, based in Scarrot’s Lane Newport, will be announcing eleven winners who’ll be presented with the unique AAA Records gold disc.

So far we have seen Jayden Hitchcock from EarsPeeled pick up the Award for Best live Event, Plastic Mermaids take the prize for Album of the Year, and Dick Taylor crowned Isle of Wight Music Legend.

Isle of Wight Innovator for 2022
Up next is the award for Isle of Wight Innovator for 2022, which has been presented to Silas Gregory for his Chalkpit Cassette Club, as featured on News OnTheWight at the beginning of the year.

Andy Barding explained,

“Silas has been a dynamic operator within the Wight Music scene for some years now, but his latest venture into groundbreaking territory takes some beating.

“His Chalkpit Cassette Club is bringing tape machines and new cassettes to a predominantly young and excited new audience – both here and around the world.

“Top of his creative pile is the Next Wave series of compilation cassettes, which introduce thrusting new artists to us all through music and a magazine, every month!”

He went on to add,

“The NME felt the club deserved an award, and so do we. In fact, we’re so keen on it we’ve started stocking his portable players.

“We’ll stock Next Wave too, if they ever stop selling out. Congratulations Silas!”
