When a new political group at County Hall was announced this week, The ABC Group, it had many Islanders scratching their heads trying to understand what the letters represented.
OnTheWight got in touch with the group leader, Reform UK councillor for Central Rural, Caroline Gladwin, to find out more.
This morning, she replied,
“I am afraid it is really boring, and ABC does not stand for anything, it is completely neutral and just represents the fact that Councillor Adams and myself are totally separate, me being Reform UK and him being Independent.
“We have, for now, joined together in the ABC Group just for the sake of the new Council Committee system to access Committee seats that better represent our Residents and Wards that would not be available to us on our own.”
The other member of the group is Dave Adams, the councillor for Nettlestone and Seaview. After being elected in 2021, he joined the Alliance Group, then left to join the Empowering Islanders Group, had a stint being Independent and non-aligned, but now is listed as Independent part of the ABC Group.
