The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust is inviting adrenaline junkies to reach spectacular heights with a Spinnaker Tower Abseil in Portsmouth on Saturday 19 September, while making a difference to young people in recovery from cancer.
Challenge yourself to abseil 100 meters down the side of the south coast’s tallest landmark and raise funds to enable more young people in recovery from cancer to take part in sailing trips with the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust to help rebuild their confidence.
“Such an adrenaline rush”
Becky Erskine-Thomas, a young person who previously sailed and currently volunteers with the Trust, abseiled the iconic Spinnaker Tower to fundraise for the charity last year.
Becky said:
“Doing the abseil made me feel like I had achieved something really big! I raised money for such a good cause and had an amazing time whilst doing it! The abseil is such an adrenaline rush and is a really exciting day. I would definitely recommend other people taking part as it is a once in a life time opportunity to do something crazy and raise money for something you care about!”

A limited amount of places are available for thrill seekers who would like to support the Trust and take part in the ultimate Spinnaker Tower experience.
Registration costs £85 per person and participants are asked to fundraise a minimum of £150 for the Trust. Participants are also required to be over 18 with no serious medical problems.
Abseilers will each receive a Trust t-shirt, a goody bag, a souvenir photograph and be motivated by an enthusiastic cheering team on the day. Promising a fun and supportive atmosphere, many past participants have abseiled the tower in fancy dress, making for excellent photos!

Taking young people aged between 8-24 who are recovering from cancer on four-day sailing trips.
As the Trust receives no government funding and does not charge fees, they therefore rely 100% on voluntary funding.
