Visitors to the Isle of Wight Steam Railway have enjoyed action packed days at the attraction’s Steam Show.
Now in its 46th year, this annual event saw a fabulous collection of traction engines, vintage cars, historic motorbikes, military and commercial vehicles descend on Havenstreet station.
Entertainment galore
In the main arena visitors were enthralled by the giant leaps performed by the Adrenaline Tour quad-bike riders, and loved the high-speed Little Nippers terrier racing.
One highlight is the ever-popular ‘traction engine games’ which see these veteran steam vehicles complete in challenges, and even a game of musical chairs.
With live music on the woodland stage, an old-fashioned fairground carousel, and the Railway’s Train Story Discovery Centre open to the public, there was plenty to see during the day.
‘Calbourne’ in action throughout the weekend
Trains departed every 30 minutes throughout the day, with the line’s flagship engine W24 ‘Calbourne’ in action throughout the weekend.
The railway’s traditional carriages continue to be used to best advantage as families were able to reserve a compartment for their exclusive use.
Backhouse: Biggest event in the Railway’s calendar
General Manager, Steve Backhouse, explained,
“Following the cancellation of the 2021 event, we’re all delighted that this popular event is back.
“This is the biggest event in the Railway’s calendar and it means a lot to be welcoming visitors back to this festival of steam.”
