Alan Wells Elected As Chair Of Isle of Wight Conservative Association

The former County Councillor, Alan Wells, was elected as Chairman of the Isle of Wight Conservative Association last night, the CP reports.

Alan Wells on IW Radio Phone-InHe told the CP, “I would like to unify the party and its work on the Island.” This is at odds with someone claming to be a long-standing member of the IW Conservative Association wrote to VB earlier this week.

They revealed several details relating to what they claimed showed “relentless in-fighting among our ranks”.Several threaten resignation
We’ve not been able to verify any of the points revealed, in the email, but the “lifelong Tory”, also claimed that several councillors and prominent supporters had been threatening resignation if Cllr Wells was elected.

Given now that Cllr Wells has now been elected, it will be interesting to see whether this information was accurate or not.

The role that Alan Wells has just gained was previously held by Dona Ratcliff, after a four-year maximum term.

Alan Wells founded the successful Island company AJ Wells, which incorporates Charnwood stoves.

Conservative government?
Those who read the CP report of the election result may be been a little puzzled by Cllr Wells’ comment.

He told the CP, “We have a Conservative Government, a Conservative council and a Conservative MP, so we should be flying. Politically we are potentially in a very strong position and I hope we can go forward with that.”

Perhaps it was the excitment of the election that distracted him, but we are under the impression that it was a coalition Government, not Conservative.

Andrew Turner a Conservative MP?
You would not think so reading anything which comes out of his office, when he is always described as the ‘Island MP’, never mentioning his politics and this is always faithfully repeated by his media sycophants.
What’s wrong with being a Tory, Mr Turner?

Alan Wells will need a lot of super glue to get the party to come together. His comments support my information about measures currently being put in place to replace Pugh as leader of the council. STAY TUNED As a life long Conservative I am ashamed of the Island Conservatives who have ignored the electorate and will pay the price next May. How can they consider electing… Read more »

Yes, the ruling group are the modern day political equivalent of the RMS Titanic. Captain Smith, sorry Pugh, is up on the bridge, reassuring everyone that under Alan’s Chairmanship and his leadership, the vessel is unsinkable and will easily reach its nirvana – PFI. The rest of the band, (the cabinet) play on regardless, not quite sure if young David is right or wrong. Other more sensible… Read more »

There is no choice except Independent. Every political party stinks.

No politician can govern “without the consent of the governed” ( from the Declaration of Independence). Consent is given via each individual vote so only vote for politicians who seek to serve their community rather than their own ambition.

I think many people enter politics with good intentions but their ego, self-importance and desire for recognition sadly get in the way. It’s not about who you are, what you have or where you come from but about what you can give, what you have to offer and what you can do for others.

There’s no doubt that power may corrupt, because it’s addictive, but our system of democracy and elections means that poiticians will seldom admit to failure because that lets down their reputation and loses votes.
As a result they prevaricate and generally avoid the slings and arrows of accountability whenever possible.
