Police are investigating a report of an unprovoked assault on a woman in Newport on the Isle of Wight.
The 72-year-old was walking with her husband along St James’ Street towards the square between 3pm and 3.20pm on Thursday, December 8, 2011.
Punched in the face
The victim, who is from Sandown on the island, told police that a woman punched her while they were walking near the junction with Pyle Street.
She was left shaken by what happened with swelling and bruising to her right cheek.
Police would like to thank staff from a nearby business who assisted the victim shortly afterwards.
Appeal for witnesses
Officers are making enquiries in Newport town centre today (Friday) to appeal for witnesses and any other information.
The suspect was described as:
> Female
> Aged approximately 30
> 5 ft 6 ins tall
> Average build
> Dark brown, slightly curly, collar length hair
