Police are appealing for a possible witness to come forward after a man’s death on the Isle of Wight.
He was found collapsed by a member of the public in Pyle Street near the junction with Coppins Bridge shortly after 8.30pm Thursday night (22 March 2012).
The man, believed to be aged in his 40s from the Island, was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigating link to drug use
Police are in the process of identifying and contacting next-of-kin.
HM Coroner was informed. A post-mortem examination is due to take place to help establish the cause of death. Police will not be in a position to name the deceased until all formal identification procedures have been completed.
There is no indication the man was assaulted, but detectives are investigating whether his death was linked to illegal drugs use.
Police are particularly keen to trace a second man seen walking in the Pyle Street area around 8.30pm Thursday night. He is not suspected of any crime, but could be an important witness to the circumstances surrounding why the first man collapsed.
